The Biden Administration and individuals like Anthony Fauci, brought us dangerously near to complete medical authoritarianism, and that is something we must never forget. Now, Biden is declaring that the COVID pandemic “is over” despite continued use in policies and programs.
Joe Biden finally acknowledged in a Sunday broadcast interview with 60 Minutes that the covid pandemic is over, but he did so about a year and a half too late. He said:
“We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. It’s — but the pandemic is over. if you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think this is a perfect example of it.”
Evidently, in the troubled mind of Joe Biden, the prevalence of masks was a barometer of the frequency of covid. Of course, a lot of this depends on where in the US or the rest of the world you have lived. The bulk of people have stopped wearing masks in red states for about two years. And contrary to the predictions (and dreams) of numerous members of the political left, conservatives were far from dying in the streets.
Red states actually experienced a considerably superior economic recovery, including better job and company recovery numbers, and there was essentially no difference in the death and infection rates compared to blue states, which stopped shutdowns and mandates far later. The effectiveness of mask mandates is also in doubt, as studies (read below) currently indicate that the covid lockdowns had little to no good impact.
Furthermore, long before the covid mRNA vaccines were widely distributed to the public, infection and death rates for covid started to decline. The science and the data demonstrate that shortly after reaching the US, COVID ceased to pose a significant hazard. Numerous peer-reviewed research indicate that the official median IFR (Infection Fatality Rate) is only 0.23%. In other words, more than 99.7% of the population is not in danger from COVID.
The lockdowns did not work, yet they were unnecessary. The mask mandates were ineffective, but they were unnecessary. And, even before 5% of the US population was immunized, the rates of the initial covid strains began to fall substantially. Overall, every single government program that interfered with the lives and freedoms of millions of people proved futile.
Given that he is unable to assess the pandemic’s current state, Biden’s recent statement is meaningless. The American people already did that, and they long ago pronounced the issue to be resolved.
Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky stated that the government should now renounce all the emergency powers it has seized by exaggerating the threat of the virus right after President Joe Biden’s statements.
“If ‘the pandemic is over’ as Biden says, then all of the President’s emergency powers predicated on a pandemic, all COVID vax mandates, the emergency powers of every governor, Emergency Use Authorizations, and the PREP act should all be voided tomorrow,” said Massie.
Additionally, as Jonathan Turley so articulately observes, it is possible that some people were caught off guard by the President’s unexpected declaration that the pandemic “is over,” including Administration lawyers who were still using the pandemic as the foundation for policies and initiatives. This week’s important appellate case is included in this.
The Administration relied on the pandemic to justify the massive loan forgiveness program at a cost of as much as $1 trillion. The move will be the subject of challenges and defended under the HEROES Act of 2003 as tied to a national emergency, ”when significant actions with potentially far-reaching consequences are often required.”
The pandemic is also being used by states continued crackdowns on those who refuse to get vaccines. New York is moving to fire hundreds of teachers and school administrators.
Private companies like T-Mobile are also moving this month to fire unvaccinated workers.
The President also heralded the removal of masks recently despite the continues requirement for some schools and other locations under pandemic rules (including at my own George Washington University). While at the Detroit Auto Show, Biden declared “If you notice, no one’s wearing a mask, everybody seems to be in pretty good shape.”
Biden’s statement on the end of the pandemic is likely to be cited in a variety of briefs in cases challenging emergency powers and policies used by the Administration. It was just a year ago, in September 2021, that the President imposes such rules to “ensur[e] the health and safety of the Federal workforce and the efficiency of the civil service.” President Biden announced a similar requirement for federal civilian employees. Exec. Order No. 14,043, 86 Fed. Reg. 50,989 (Sept. 14, 2021).
One such example could be the appeal now being considered by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The issue of the sweeping pandemic authority being claimed by the Biden Administration is now going before the full court in an en banc rehearing.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown previously issued a nationwide injunction against the vaccination mandate in January. That was stayed and has resulted in a series of conflicted moves on appeal.
Yet, the Justice Department is still citing the pandemic authority and insisting that “if an employee chooses not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine (and is ineligible for an exception), he simply may no longer be permitted to continue in federal employment, just as an employee would be subject to termination if she chose to stop performing her job or chose to violate workplace policies.”

Now the President is declaring that the pandemic is over as the Justice Department is defending pandemic policies in various courts. Even if one were to argue that the policy should be reviewed as supported at the time, the continued viability of the policy can now be questioned in light of the President’s own statements. The President’s comments also highlight the fluidity of pandemic policies. While we often look to the CDC on such status statements, it is the President who ultimately decides federal policies on pandemic measures.
If the pandemic “is over,” some may question the continued uncertain status of military personnel and federal employees on vaccine status as well as lingering mask mandates being used in some states and by certain businesses.

The elimination of our freedoms was also vigorously promoted by a number of institutions with political agendas who claimed that we could “never go back to normal again” and that, in order to comply with the new pandemic framework, individual liberty had to be sacrificed.
If Biden’s vaccination passport executive orders had been implemented rather than denied, the United States would be exactly where China is today where lockdowns are still in place, and covid is being portrayed as a continuing threat. Anyone who refused to vaccinate would have been denied work and involvement in the general economy, thereby starving them into submission or forcing them to join black market systems and become criminals. Millions of citizens stood up to these directives and prevailed, but now we must reverse direction and ensure that such an attempt to take away our liberties never happens again.
