China embarks on the construction of 15 new cities in Iraq, with East China Engineering Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and another company securing contracts to build the housing units.

China Starts Building 15 New Cities In Iraq 1

According to a Bloomberg story published on December 29, Iraq began construction on 30,000 housing units close to Baghdad on December 29 as part of a $2 billion scheme to establish five new cities throughout the country in collaboration with Chinese companies.

The goal of Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani’s administration is to construct between 250,000 and 300,000 homes for middle-class and impoverished households. The new city, which will be built in four to five years, will have universities, shopping malls, schools, and medical facilities. It is located outside of Baghdad.

East China Engineering Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd., along with its Iraqi partner Shams al-Binaa, were given contracts to construct the dwelling units.

Ten other cities, including those in the governorates of Karbala, Anbar, Nineveh, and Babel, will be announced for construction next year, and contracts to develop four more are anticipated to be given shortly.

Chinese companies have become more prevalent in Iraq in recent times, partly because of an agreement between Beijing and Baghdad.

The US needs to win the Gaza War to destabilize BRICS to carry on with the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) proposal presented in September at the G20 meeting in New Delhi.

Iraq and Chinese companies inked a 20-year contract in 2019 for the supply of 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, with the proceeds going toward paying the Chinese companies’ numerous development projects in Iraq.

Following the agreement, Chinese companies constructed power plants, 1,000 schools, the Nasiriya city airport, and numerous other infrastructure projects.

As part of its 2013 announcement of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has increased its investment in Iraq and other West Asian countries.

Given West Asia’s energy riches and geostrategic location, Beijing wants to ensure stability in the region to protect its energy imports and exports of manufactured goods to overseas markets.

  1. America and its Mini-Me Israel bomb and destroy cities while China builds them. Which do you think will find friendship and cooperation from the world? As you sow, so shall you reap.
