A doctor in Washington state was penalized for giving ivermectin to treat COVID-19. Additionally, as per recently filed records, he needs to take continuing education courses.
An order dated May 2 and signed by the Washington Medical Commission mandates $5,000 from Dr. Wei-Hsung Lin.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has licensed ivermectin for the treatment of several illnesses, including parasitic worms. In the US, it is not uncommon for doctors to prescribe medication for unapproved uses; nonetheless, administration representatives have issued a warning against prescribing and treating COVID-19 patients with ivermectin. Regulators have provided access to a database of clinical trials, some of which concluded that ivermectin was not effective against COVID-19 and others that found it to be.
The order’s signatory, Dr. Lin, acknowledged writing five prescriptions for ivermectin without disclosing the reason for the off-label use, the risks associated with it, or any substitute therapies.
On June 23, 2021, a 71-year-old female patient at the emergency room tested positive for COVID-19. The next day, she had a telemedicine session with Dr. Lin. He said that a “substantial body of literature” demonstrated that ivermectin was “effective as a one-day therapy or five-day therapy,” therefore he prescribed her 12 milligrams of the drug every day for five days.
The patient took ivermectin for four days, but showed no improvement; she returned to the hospital. In the end, she was released and made a full recovery.
In another instance, a 69-year-old man with COVID-19 was prescribed ivermectin by Dr. Lin. Dr. Lin noted that the man’s wife also had COVID-19, therefore she recommended further ivermectin. Because they went online and “observed the warnings about ivermectin for COVID-19 as well as the possible negative effects for those with heart conditions,” the husband and wife decided not to take the ivermectin, according to the order.
The report states that one of the reasons Dr. Lin’s service was “below the standard of care” was that he neglected to mention any other options. The document does not include any alternatives. Remdesivir was the main COVID-19 patient treatment that the government had approved as of 2021.
Authorities also criticized Dr. Lin for failing to talk to his patients about the COVID-19 vaccine.
Unprofessional conduct is defined by state law as “any act involving moral turpitude, dishonesty, or corruption relating to the practice of the person’s profession, whether the act constitutes a crime or not,” and this is what the order said Dr. Lin had done.
The injunction forbids Dr. Lin from prescribing any drug or treating patients without first establishing a doctor-patient relationship, including off-label use of ivermectin in the state of Washington.
In addition, he must attend continuing medical education classes on managing, treating, and preventing COVID-19 as well as establishing a doctor-patient relationship. He must also review the most recent COVID-19 guidelines on the websites of UpToDate and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), write two papers of at least 1,000 words, and take continuing medical education classes.
Dr. Lin is required to present within a year and thereafter annually at a site chosen by the commission as part of compliance oversight. The commission or its designee will also conduct yearly compliance visits, which will involve examining a random selection of records.
The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons’ executive director, Dr. Jane Orient, stated that the standards are “incredibly onerous” and that the necessary effort will “enormously increase the burden of practice and probably drive most physicians out of practice altogether.”
“Ivermectin is an extremely safe drug—much safer than most drugs physicians prescribe without all the ‘informed consent’ discussions demanded here,” Dr. Orient told The Epoch Times in an email.
“As to informing patients of alternatives, the reasons patients were calling this doctor was likely that no alternatives were available. It was ‘isolate and go to ER if you get worse.’”
If at all possible, she advised doctors to stay out of Washington state.
When contacted, the Washington Medical Commission did not respond.
Dr. Lin works for the Richland Clinic Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
“After being made aware of an alleged violation by one of our providers, we fully cooperated with the Washington State Department of Health throughout their investigation. While Kadlec does not recommend or allow ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19, we respect the rights of patients and physicians to discuss and explore all available treatment options, based on patients’ unique health and medical situations,” a spokesperson for Kadlec told The Epoch Times in an email.
“We remain dedicated to providing high-quality care for all patients we serve, and we are pleased this matter has been resolved.”
Had Dr. Lin refuted the accusations, the commission would have heard arguments before making a decision that would have resulted in the suspension of his license. Several physicians who administered ivermectin for COVID-19 have already been found guilty by the commission; the most recent decision prohibits pathologist Dr. Ryan Cole from practicing medicine in the state for five years.
“Dr. Lin was willing to fight this all the way but when we looked the risk-reward matrix we felt—and he felt—it was in his best interest to go ahead and settle,” Pete Serrano, an attorney with the Silent Majority Foundation representing Dr. Lin, told The Epoch Times.
“He was ready to kind of close the chapter and move on with his life,” Mr. Serrano added later.
Negotiations for the settlement resulted in a reduction of some of the penalties that had originally threatened to pay Dr. Lin $25,000 and subject her to harsher consequences.
In three years, Dr. Lin may file a petition to revoke the order.
As previously reported by GreatGameIndia, data provided by Services Australia to The Epoch Times shows that over $13 million has been paid out in vaccine injury claims in Australia.
“he must attend continuing medical education classes ” I think they meant he must attend medical Indoctrination camps …….
this is terrible!! Ivermectin really works. There are 65 studies showing its effectiveness. The data for the alternative 13% benefit (Remdesivir).
If the name was removed from the studies, most doctors would be using it. It became political issue. So strange because the FDA just lost a lawsuit on the use of dissuading use of Ivermectin in their advertising. They admitted it was a mistake and removed all adds. And then a few weeks later this happens?
