The Delhi High Court, led by Justice Subramonium Prasad’s single-judge bench, asked the Ministry of Home Affairs where 70,000 kgs of heroin is and gave a four-week deadline.
Following a plea alleging the disappearance of over 70,000 kg of heroin, worth approximately Rs 5 lakh crore, from official seizure records between 2018 and 2020, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday, according to Bar and Bench.
Interestingly, this development comes as Dr. Peter Daszak testified at a hearing held by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, just days after whistleblower documents revealed more details about dangerous research conducted in Wuhan, as reported by GreatGameIndia earlier.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Ministry of Finance were given a four-week deadline by Justice Subramonium Prasad’s one-judge bench to provide their answers. September 9 is when the case will next be heard.
Journalist BR Aravindakshan initiated the lawsuit by petitioning the MHA requesting records regarding the narcotics’ confiscation and disposal procedures.
The petitioner drew attention to notable differences between the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics and the MHA’s data on heroin seizures between 2018 and 2020.
The suit claims that during the specified period, 70,772.544 kilograms of heroin—worth an estimated Rs 5 lakh crore—vanished from seizure records.
