Republican lawmakers who are looking into the lab-leak origin scenario want to learn more about whether NIAID or Fauci were involved in the allocation of funding to EcoHealth. But, White House panicked as reporters asked Fauci about COVID origins.
Tuesday’s White House news conference descended into chaos when many reporters grilled Anthony Fauci regarding the origins of Covid-19 and related inquiries.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tried to stop the conversation when reporters started asking questions.
“We have a process here, I’m not calling on people who yell, and you’re being disrespectful to your colleagues and you’re being disrespectful to our guests,” she said, scolding the journalists. “I will not call on you if you yell, and also you’re taking time off the clock because Dr. Fauci has to leave in a couple of minutes.”
“You need to call people across the room! She has a valid question, she’s asked about the origin of COVID,” a reporter from Africa Today shot back.
Fauci only answered three questions, one of which was concerning House Republicans gaining control of Congress and perhaps investigating him.
Multiple GOP lawmakers have signaled they would call him to testify over the origins of the COVID-19 virus and his agency having provided funding to a third party to carry out controversial research in Wuhan, China.

The longtime federal official said that he has testified “hundreds of times” and would comply with Republicans if he is asked. Regarding questions about the origin of COVID-19, Fauci did not answer Tuesday.
“I’ll let other people judge the value or not of my accomplishments, but I would like people to remember about what I’ve done, is that every day for all of those years I’ve given it everything that I have and I’ve never left anything on the field,” Fauci said.
Then he urged everyone to have COVID-19 booster doses that were up to date.
“Whether you’re a far-right Republican or a far-left Democrat, it doesn’t make any difference to me,” he said. “I look upon it the same way as I did in the emergency room in middle New York City when I was taking care of everybody who was coming in off the street.”

Conservatives and GOP politicians have criticized Fauci because of his public support for COVID-19 shutdown orders, mask mandates, and vaccine mandates, as well as because of the frequently grave forecasts he has made about the course of the virus. Some people, including the Republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, claimed that Fauci and other government authorities had tried to spread fear about the virus.
DeSantis claimed in August that Fauci intended to “sow fear in the population and scared a lot of parents” when he advocated for the closure of schools in favor of face-to-face instruction. DeSantis declared, “We can never go down that road.”

Fauci declared he “is not retiring” and that he would continue to work on “science and public health as well as to inspire and mentor the next generation of scientific leaders as they help prepare the world to face future infectious disease threats,” according to a statement released in July.

Although the virus is believed by some U.S. intelligence officials to have originated at the Wuhan facility, Chinese Communist Party authorities have officially claimed that it did so at a wet market.

In addition to Fauci, they have made deposition attempts against former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, surgeon general Vivek Murthy, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Jen Easterly, and FBI agents. The Biden administration has filed an appeal in their lawsuit, but a judge denied the government’s motion on November 2.
